From small beginnings in 1991, The Bury St Edmunds Concert Band has grown to become a well-respected local band, numbering over 40 talented amateur musicians, drawn from Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding area. Playing a full complement of musical instruments, the band all give their time for free to attend regular weekly rehearsals and present around a dozen public performances each year.
We have a wide-ranging repertoire, ranging from Bernstein to Verdi with many other genres in between, amply supported by our extensive music library, which currently numbers almost 400 pieces, with new numbers being added all the time as funds permit.
In September 2008, the Bury St Edmunds performed a ‘Last Night of the Proms’ concert in St Mary’s Church, Bury St. Edmunds, an event which attracted an audience of 275 people, and which raised the sum of £1400 for local children’s charity, the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.
